Mandatory Fun shot up to the #1 spot on the charts, and is also the first comedy album to reach the top since the 60s.
Idk about you, but I think that’s super cool

Al and his number one!
Tom Green presents an obviously moved Al with a framed Billboard chart of his first ever #1.
We happened to be visiting Yankovic at his house in the Hollywood hills for an upcoming story for Rolling Stone when his longtime manager Jay Levey told him the album was likely to debut on top of the charts. Tears welled up in Yankovic’s eyes and his wife Suzanne comforted him. “Sweetie,” she said. “It’s just people loving you like they always have.”
This is a really nice little piece from Rolling Stone. A very important tidbit mentioned is that the Mandatory Fun tour will start next year. It was an assumption but now we know it to be fact. So you have some time to save up your pennies!

Content creators, social media strategists and PR professionals should fall to the feet of Weird Al and lap up his creative genius. What Yankovic pulled off this past week in the world of content publishing was amazing.
His 14th (yes, fourteenth!) studio album, Mandatory Fun, was released on July 15th, 2014. To promote it, Weird Al launched his #8videos8days project, releasing one music video per day for eight days straight, each on a different content partner’s website.
Eight. Days. Straight. Over 3700 articles were written about him last week, which generated over 3 million social media shares.
Look at those numbers! That’s downright outrageous and fabulous! You could not escape the Al storm this week!
